The/first United States contingent of troops, with a medical \mit, has arrived in Britain. Lord Derby, in an interview with the United Press, said the war would not end until the United States' fu.ll fighting force was thrown into tie scale. Not until the United States made war as if she alone faced Germany would there be a possibility of predicting the end. The- bigger the blow the United States could deliver and the quicker she could deliver it the sooner would \ictory come. Germany was actively propagating the idea that the end of the war was near in order to mislead the United States. This was untrue, but Germany was weakening. Nevertheless sshe was not yet ready to accept any terms but her own. Lord Kitchener had always heldthat.the war would be a long one. America's moral effect would be great against Germany. If troops were sent to Russia it would undoubtedly hear too the Russians greatly.
