COUNTER-ATTACKS ON THE CHEMIN-DES-DAMES.
LIVELY GRENADE FIGHTING

London, May 18. A French communique says: The enemy violently bombarded' Californie Plateau, on tie Chemin-des-Dames.
• Several attacks on the north-eastern end of the plateau were repulsed after the liveliest grenade fighting. We maintained our positions.
There was a somewhat intense artillery struggle at night in the region of Mont Cornilet, Mont Haut, and in Champagne.
