CAPTURED.

CIVILIANS EVACUATING TRIESTE

(Australian and N.Z. Gable Association)

Rome, May 18.

The battle against fortifications eastward of Gorz has been extended, and is proceeding favourably. The Austrian losses amount to several divisions. Monte Santo, th© key of the whole defence, may be considered as taken, because the Italians occupy positions near the summit. Tie "Corriere d'ltalia" states that [the Austrians have ordered civilians to evacuate an exposed point on the Italian front. All the Trieste banks have been closed. The Government and leading businesses, are removing their archives and valuables to Vienna. Many officers captured in the recent offensive came from the Russian front.
