MR FIELD AND THE MINERS

-We have heard many favourable comments on the excellent speech made by. Mr T. A: H. Field, M.P., at tka Miners' Hall, Wakaniarina, Jast Saturday (says the Pelcrus uGi:ardian"). His straight-out and fearless references to 1.W.W.-ism are more likely to gain the respect and support of the miners than Ji' he had side-tracked the subject as one likely to lead to discord and disorder. Mr Field's plain and unvarnished statement of the destructive policy of the organisation known as the i.W.YV. has given the miners something to ponder over. He made it plain that for any union of workers to object to compulsion—as shown in tiie opposition to the- Conscription Act — •was illogical, for the dominant note in all the clauses of their won constitution was compulsion. He brought--forth arguments showing the absurdity of the claims of the "more extreme socialist class who set out that Labour I produced all wealth. Some of the tacts which he left to be digested had probably never entered the heads of-., some of his hearers. Mr Field's statement in his opening remarks that he had polled only ten votes in that portion of his electorate cannot be accepted as an indication of vhis present standing in the Wakamarina, and we predict a far greater measure of .support—ever; from the minors—ac the second time of asking.
