BROKEN ENGAGEMENT.
DAMAGES SECURED FROM SOLDIER.

At the Supreme Court to-day Agnes Adela Marryatt, of Milton, sued Erek Moen, of Dunedin, bank clerk, for £500 damages for breach of promise of marriage. • j " For the plaintiff it was - stated j that defendant became engaged to the plaintiff at the end of 1913. and visited her mother's house regularly. He gave plaintiff an engagement ring in 1914, when ho was twenty-one years of age. He left for the front in October, i 1915, and returned wounded in December, 1916. While absent re kept | u,p a correspondence, but on his return i ! informed" the plaintiff' he wished to ! terminate the engagement, as he had found .somebody else ho liked bettor. He demanded his release, }.mt plaintiff refused. She tad1 acted as his attorney during his absence. Defendant's counsel admitted, tin? facts, except the statement that defendant had found anyone he liked better. Plaintiff was' awarded £100, and costs.
