RUSSIA
INTERNATIONAL ASSEMBLY CONTEMPLATED.
(Australian and N.Z. Cable Association) London, May 15. Ine "Daily ChronlcleV Sttckliolm correspondent states that the. BeMan Socialists MM. Van der Velde Ind Deman are en route to Petfograd to interview the Swedish and Dutch Socialist delegates regarding the proposed peace conference at Stockholm. The latter explained that he hoped to confer successively with belligerent and neutral delegations-with a view to outlining peace proposals on the lines of President Wilson's programme and thereafter convening an international Socialist assembly of all countries. M. Van der Velde, who is president of the Internationalist Socialist Bureau, declared that the Belgian Socialists could not be associated with Socialists supporting the imperialistic aims of the Central Powers. The Dutch and Scandinavian committee then abandoned the scheme for a joint conference. Simultaneously Germany announced her refusal to allow German minority Socialists to go to Stockholm. ■ Meanwhile Van der Velde and Deman proceed to Petrograd with a view '' to organising a Labour-Socialist confer- | ence of the Entente nations in order to i bring the Russian Soldiers and Work-! men's Council into line with their Allied comrades.
