At a sitting of the Magistrate's Court, Motue-Ka, on Monday, before Mr. I<\ 08. Loughnau, K.M., the police, represented by Constable Pidgeou, .proceeded again-st Itobert Lan-dret-L" McKay, a reservist, on a ciiarge of failing to notify his change of address in accordance with the Military Service Act. The police stated that defendant came to reside in Motueka i some time ago, but omitted to notify tho Government Statistician of hi*, change of address within the prescribed period of fourteen days, though' he j did forward the required I -eventually and it was by this means that the offence became, known. A heavy penalty was not asked for. The Magistrate, in view of the circi:mstances, convicted and fined defendaut 10s and costs .—"Star." i The significance of the strip of gold braid worn on' tiie left sleeve of men in uniform' is onn■•which- is not always recognised in Ntnv Zealand. The 'badge is one authorised by tho War Office to signify that tho "wearer has been wounded in action during the present war. 'Tho. badge is also "authorised by the New Zealand Defence Department which undertakes to issue to tho returned soldier still. Ii? nnifoim one strip of braid for each separate occasion that he has been wounded, if a man wears three pieces" of braid it means that upon three separate occasions ho has appeared in the casualty list as wounded in. action. The regulations especially provide that shell shock and \ ''gassing 71 are classed as being wounded for the: purpose of issue of. the braid. Sickness, however, does not qualify, a man for tho badge. j
