THE POLICE FORCE

Wellington, Feb. 13. Before, the Military Service Board the Commissioner of/Police appealed on behalf of four constables, a sergeant, and a detective-sergeant. He said that since he last appeared before the Court the number.of the force had been, still further decreased. , About ten resignations have been received, and no new members had yet been sworn in to replace them It was intended to take on some men for temporary service, but they would not come under the operation of the ballot. A mimTfer of members were approaching the retirement age. The cases -were adjourned without date, provided the appellants remain in their present employment.
