RED CROSS-FUND.

CHRYSANTHEMUM PAGEANT.

Po-morrow evening a public meeting will be held in the City Council Chambers under the auspices of the Nelson lied Cross Centre to consider the proposal to hold a Chrysanthemum Pageant in Trafalgar Park in April in aid of the lied Cross funds. It is anticipated that the increased activity at the front | in. the spring and summer will make I greater calls than; ever upon the Hed Cross, and 'the•'-'•proposal has been I brought'forward with the view of augmenting local contributions.. The JSelson district lias a splendid in connection with Red Cross work, and there is every reason to bolieve that tho effort under notice, will be enthusiastically supported. To carry out tho scheme, which will include a number of novel features, assistance outside tho regular workers m the cause is necessary, and with the oibject of securing this the public meeting will be held as stated. All in sympathy with the causo ! and-willing to assist in the effort are jcordially invited to be present. j At a meeting of the Wellington braneh^of the Red Cross, held pn Thursday last, Mrs Arthur Pearce reported that she, with Mrs W. F. Massey, visited the central workrooms of tho Red Cross Society :in London, and that' the workers had told them how they appreciated all that had been done by the New Zealand and Australian Societies. During February and -March. of last year, if it had not been for the arrival of Australasian goods, their store in Euglaud would have been quito depleted, and they would not have been able to fulfil all the requisitions sent to them.

This is further testimony to the value of the work done,by .the. women of New Zealand, and Nelson women have don© their full share. It is hoped that there will be a large attendance and our local workers'.^hereby _bo encouraged and assisted in their noble labours.
