HELPING HAND SHOP.
The competitions at the Helping Hand Shop this week did not-meet with the support that the committee hoped for, probably on account'of its hteing a ibusy time. The1 soldiers' socks competition received the most entries, and the prize was won by, Mrs AY.. Rout, In*, the classes for potatoes, peas, minco pies, and' plum puddings there was ono ontry for each, so the committee decided to give half the prize money. Mr GJ. Hodgson, of Spring Grove, sent a good specimen of peas and potatoes, Mrs Rcbson minco pies, and Miss Haycock a plum pudding. Contributions were received from Cable Bay, Kaka, Belgrovo, Spring Grove,' Brightwater, itichmond, btoKe, Tahunanui, the Port, Atayshai, WakapTiaka, and the city. The takings for yesterday amounted to £23 Is, and the expenses were 11s sd. The committee thank the Port ladies and thoso of Brightwater, and the boys for. helping with the parcels. The Mayoress's Flag now totals £81 6s, of which amount 16s was received this week. The Shop will not reopen till January llfch, 1917.
