The Empire appeal on behalf of the mine-sweepers in the North Sea has met with, a satisfactory response from Nelson. As the' Dominion gift for this purpose is to leave Wellington early this week. th« Nelsbn porKon of it, consisting of one large and one small case, was packed and sent forward by the Kaitoa. on Saturday. The cases contained 89 pairs of" socks (nearly all hand-made), 47 pairs ! woollen underpants, 57 singlets, 29 ; Balaclava caps, 40 mufflers, 4. pair., gloves. 17 pairs mittens (hand-made). 2 knitted .waistcoats, 6 flannel day shirts, 5 jerseys, 1 pair knickers, 1 pair stockings. 5 tiiis smokes, 2 tins sweets, 4 handkerchiefs, and 4 bags. The value of .the shipment was approximately £63. Mrs Lock and the members of the W.C.T.U.. who have had,the matter in hand, desire to thank all those who have • helped them in thc-ir efforts for this deserving cause.
