APPEAL TO SMALL INVESTORS.

Discussing the proposal of the GqverniTicut to issue loan certificates for the benefit of small investors, the Christchurcli "Press" says:—These range- from £1 to £50 m face value, and have a currency of fivo yeais. A certificate can bo purchased for 16s, which will be worth £1 in five years' time. The highest denomination in] theso certificates is £50, which can bo1 purchased now for £40, the interest, bringing up tho value to £50 ir. fh re years. If the working classes —even boys and girls who are now earning good wages—can be induced to mvost as much as possible in those certificates nothing but good can result from the practice. The new act of self-denial will bo 'beneficial,' and they will bo siradually creating a nice little nest-egg, which tliey may find extremely useful in five years' time, when possibly employment may not be so plentiful or so well paid as .it is now. Employers heads of educational establishments, trades union executives —all who have any influence with, wage-earners ought to "do what they can to encourage this excellent form "of thrift.
