A MOMENTARY FOOTING

MUCH AUt FIGHTING.

GREAT ENEMY FORCES ENGAGED AT DELVILLE.

(Reutef's Telegrams.)

London, July 22. Sir Douglas Haig reports that there is a lull''in the main battle area.

The enemy, after bombarding, attacked the north edge of the Leipzig salient, and succeeded in entering our :iront trenches. They were immediately driven out. Our aeroplanes are continually bombing important military points. The enemy's aircraft were inactive until the evening. Then there was much fighting behind the German i lines. One of our offensive patrols encountered eleven German machines. Three were brought down, one in flames. In another encounter lasting 45 min'iites between four of our machines and six German aeroplanes one of the former was brought down and another was damaged.

It is now established that the enemy's assault at Delville Wood over a front of 2000. yards on the 18th was made by at least thirteen battalions from four different divisions. The enemy's losses were correspondingly great.
