Mr. W. H. Paterson, of Oairaru, has a quartz stone weighing 421b, which, by measurement, should contain only 281b of quartz (says the "Mail"). It is estimated to contain 91b of gold. The stone is the prototype of the many similar stones taken out of the Shotover, near Stony Creek, in the early days, which yielded £475,000 worth of gold, but this specimen, secured many months ago, showed little signs of wear. Acting upon the obvious deduction, Mr. Paterson has since been prospecting for the main reef from which it came, and this he thinks he has now located.

An Australian inventor.
