UPPER MOUTERE-NEUDORF RED CROSS BRANCH.

The following is the report and balance-sheet of the Upper MoutereNeudorf Red Cross branch: —

The Upper Moutere and Neudorf brfiiich of the Red Cross/Fund was formed on July 7th, 1915, when there were 12 ladies present. A committee, of ten were elected: —Mesdames Muntz ! (chairwoman), R. H. Bensenr.ann.(treasurer), IT. C. Beuke (secretary), C. i Thomas, L. Thomas, C. Bockmann, J. Harvey, and A. Sixtus, and Misses L. Best and A. Bensemann. It was de- ( cided that sewing members pay a subscription of one shilling a month. There were 25 shilling subscribers, and eight wi&P paid more, while the donations amounted to £22 14s 4d. When first formed the branch was helped by donations from the Patriotic Fund to the extent _of £21 ss, hjrt in November, 191-5. it was decided' to make the branch self-supporting. Accordingly a social and sale was held, which brought in £24 Bs. It Avas decided to add to this and bank .£3O. Another special effort was made on January Ist, when £44.175-9 d was realised, £35 was sent to the Nelson fund and the rest held for the purchase of material. It -was thought impossible to continue sewing during the hop-picking- months, au<l; it was decided to send in the last sewing on February 21st, also to send £11 10s to flic Nelson fund. Sewing was again begun in May, and since then two parcels containing 113 garments have been sent in. During "the year 590 have been sent from an average of not more than fifteen sewers. During -the month of June an appeal was made to all for help. A request.for a shilling subscription.-a month, anfi to make one garment a ir.onth was made, with the result we had promises of 15 subscribers and nine - sewers. During the year one of our committee, Miss A. Bensemann, has left the district, : and in her place Mrs. Scott was appointed. All thanks are -due to the committee for the splendid way they have worked, especially the. treasurer, who has taken the soie charge of the marking and packing of all parcels sent, to, the deoot. Thanks are also due to Mr:. H. R. Bensemann for carrying all parcels free of charge, and to both daily -papers..for publisking acknowledgments and accounts of socials, etc.
