PUBLIC WORKS ESTIMATES.

1 Except for interesting variations in the vote for Education buildings, the Public Works Estimates are absolutely barren.
New features in tho road grants are repetitions of last year's unexpended balances.
Railway construction appropriations total £500,000, including £321,300 for North Island lines and £178,700 for' South Island lines. Last year's expenditure was £062,939. Tho additions to open lines vote was. £500,000 last year, and it is now~E3oO,ooo. In the Education Department Estimates grants for school buildings, sites and furnishing total £98,000, as compared with £65,000 voted last year j training colleges £1000 (last year £12,000); technical schools, £16,000 (last year £14,000); secondary schools, £8000 (last year £14,000); University Colleges, £5000 (last year £13,000).
