THE N.
ATIOXAL AXTREAI
(To the Editor of "The Colonist.")
1 Sir.—The unpleasant incident at tho I Theatre the other evening causes me to 'ask space for this communication. I contend that the close of • pictxjres de-i , nionstrating a prize fight was not the' time for the singing or playing of the I National Anthem. The latter is a prayer to the King of Kings to protect -aud guide our beloved earthly Sovereign. What connection had such a prayer with such pictures ? It appears to me to be a mixture of the sacred and profane, sufficient to create contempt. The National Anthem should not be thus dealt with; it should be dealt with more reverently. I also think that some steps should be taken to prevent respectable citizens being hounded and driven out of the city owing to the outcome of a c-pecies of larrikin Jingoism. The latter does no good, and in the hands of larrikins is a nasty weapon. j I am, etc., ! BRITISHER.
