Sir Edward Grey, in a farewell letter to his constituents says: '"While we will need ail our energy and much sacrifice to secure a lasting and rightminded peace, things are going so favourably with the Allies as to justify the fairest expectation of a satisfactory final success. Every week the Allies are gaining confidence and the enemy are losing it." • .
