FIERCE FIGHTING ON BOTH
SIDES
ATTACKS PENETRATING TO A
GOOD DEPTH
ENEMY'S LOSSES' AT CONTAL-
MAISON.
(Australian and N.Z. Cable Association) Paris, July .14. The "Petit Parisien" states that after a bombardment of great intensity on Thursday, the British infantry assaulted the Gorman position along almost the whole line. The fighting was most fierce on both sides. The British seized trenches in several positions. The capture of howitzers indicates that'the fighting is going to a good depth, inasmuch as howitzers are not found in the first-line trenches. The German casualties at Contalmaison were 12,000 —an indication of the importance attached to the position. ;
