Early on Eriday morning the British launched a great attack east of" Albert, and broke into the enemy's defences on a front of four miles. They captured Bazen-tin-le-Grrand, BazentkSie-Petit, and Longueval, driving the Germans back to their third lines, four miles in the rear of the front positions at one point. The British are now in possession of the first and second lines on the whole front attacked, from Bazentin-le-Petit to Longueval, including Trones "Wood, bringing the lino into conformity with the French advance. The Allies are now attacking Gomhles. The artillery and infantry struggle continues on the Meuse, where German attacks were repulsed. On the Russian front. fighting continues on the Stokhod and the Dwina. The Grand Duke is prosecuting a successful offensive west of Erzeroum. •
