RICHMOND BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The monthly meeting of the Richmond Borough Council was held on the 11th irist. Present: The Mayor (Mi\ James Hunt)* Councillors Thorn, Cross* Batt, Ingram, Rose, and Goodman. Accounts amounting to £72 2s lid were passed for payment. Correspondence was dealt with as follows:—

From Messrs. Adams and Harley, giving an opinion on a borough matter. —Resolved that no action be tarren.

1 From the secretary of the conference local body delegates who were appoiuted to discuss matters connected with the Hospital.—-Resolved that this Council approve of the action of the delegates. ' -

From Mr. A. R. Tuffnell, re inspection of septic tank.—Resolved that the letter be received.

Resolved, that the time has arrived that the borough authorities take steps to have a nightsoil system inaugurated. A* sub-commitee, consisting of Crs. Rose, Thorn and Goodman, was appointed to make inquiries and report at next Council meeting.

F'vom the Stoke Progressive Society, re overhanging trees interfering with the electric light-line.—Resolved that Mr. Black be'written.to informing him that the Council understands the matter has been settled satisfactorily to both Mr. McKay and Mr. Ellis. , The foreman reported having piped Gladstone road ditch, also Dorset street. Severall roads had-been pared and portions of them gravelled.

From Mr. J. Glen, holding the Council responsible for any damage .done to his property by flooding.—Resolved that the Waimea County Council be written to asking them to have the ditch cleaned out between the Appleby road and Mr. John Coleman's residence, and would the chairman name a day on which he would meet the Works Committee of the Borough Council to talk over Council matters.

From Mr SmaH'bone, re entrance to his property.—Resolved that the Works Committee meet by Smallbone at his property and report at next meeting.

From Mr. Shirtliff, asking for an entrance to his property in Lower Queen street. —Resolved that the matter be left in the hands of the Works Committee, with power to act. From the Trustees of the Wesleyan Church, applying for the water to be laid on to the church property.—Resolved that the matter be left in the hands of the Water Committee.

From Mr. Wilkes, applying for building uermits for Mrs. Fanzelow and Mr. Bird.

From residents on the east side of Mill street, requesting that the borough boundary be extended to include that portion east of Hill and south of Queen street to the present borough boundary. —It was resolved that the necessary steps be taken to include the area mentioned within the borough of Richmond, and that Crs. Ingrain, Batt and the Mayor be a sub-committee to deal with the correspondence in connection with the matter.

Resolved that Mr. J. Windleborn be appointed sexton.

Resolved that the wire fence at the back of the Recreation Ground be re-

moved

Cr. Rose gave notice of his intention to move, "That the Council take into consideration at its regular meeting in August the question of granting an honorarium to the Mayor."
