NOXIOUS WEEDS CASE.

Edward L Newport, who resides at Korere, was charged with failing to clear land 'at Belgrove owjied by him of gorse.

Mr'Wise'appeared for the defendant. Mr Melrose, Inspector, gave evidence that'the defendant had kept the road frontage clear, and a little work had been done on other parts of the- section, but gorso was spreading over the boundary fence, and the case was the worse because the adjoining property was likely to suffer through the default of the defendant. Witness admitted that the. war had made it more difficult to get labour, hut he was sure that the defendant could have got labour for t!ie work necessary.

t Tho defendant gave evidence that hi (had let two portions of the property and the tenants were to keep the land clean. He had difftcu^ in getting labour, "but had had some work done and had paid £2 16s for same on June 19th. The defendant' was fined £2, and ordered to pay costs 7s.
