MATERNITY HOMES.
Does this conference consider that the Board should provide maternity homes in outlying. district ? was the next question discussed.
Or. Win spoke strongly in favour of the establishment of these homes.
The chairman advocated the training of young women in the outlying districts in midwifery. He thought this the best means of dealing with the it. aternity question in isolated places. The Board could pay their expenses while they being trained in maternity hospitals.
Mr,; Harley said the establishment of homes in outlying districts would be costly, as nurses and staff would have to be provided. He thought the Board might be asked to institute some means whereby maternity cases in outlying districts could be dealt v;ibh.
Cr. Macmahon .said a hosoital had hern established in Takaka,' but the receipts had been practically' nil. The chairman said the subject could be dealt with at once. He was of opinion that they would get plontv of wilhrig young women "to undertake training.
. Mr. Harley pointed out that after living in a city, girls taken from the coxintry might not care to return to fcneir hon.es.
O'i- Cr. WiVs motion it was unanimously, resolved that tho Board be asked to take into consideration the matter or providing the necessary skilled advice and attention in maternity cases m outlying districts.
