NOTES.
A successful entertainment was held at Stoke last night. In the course of the evening, Mr J. S. Evans spoke effectively on tho claims of the Sick and Wounded Soldiers' Fund, and de--.lt with some excuses wluV-ii are occasionally advanced for failure to contribute to it. An interjector brought forward one of these excuses-^-that the Government should raise, the money (by taxation. Mr Ev?.ns took up the challenge, and his reply was entirely effective. We are asked by Mr Lints- to state that the car in which Mr Evans was v passenger on his recent adventurous trip tv Korcre was not the nov t - Overland which is being disposed of by art union.
