FURTHER FRENCH SUCCESSES.

CAPTURE OF ASSEVILLERS

ENEMY'S SECOND LINE PASSED

A communique states that north of the Son.me the position is unchanged.

We followed up our success east of Mericourt Wood and captured Chapitre Wood and the village of Fiullere.

The infantry, after a brilliant assault, captured Assevillers, the centre of a powerful German defence, organisation.

Southward of Assevillers we took the second German position ,|is far as the approaches to Estrees. . >

During the afternoon we got beyond the second position, and captured Buscourb, east of Feuillere and Flaucourt, a depth of five kilometres.

We dispersed enemy detachments in the region of Belloy-en-Santarre, east of Flaucourt.

The material captured includes seven baterjes, three of large calibre, machine guns, and trench guns. The wounded prisoners exceed 8000.
