GREAT BUILDING PROGRAMME

APPROPRIATION BILL IN THE

SENATE.

The Naval Appropriation Bill as reported by the Senate authorises an expenditure of 61 millions sterling for the year, niue millions more than the original" programme.

The building increases, which were originally spread over five years, will be carried out in three years. They include ten battleships, four of which will be begun immediately, six battlecruisers, ten scout cruisers, fifty destroyers, nine fleet submarines, of which three will be of 800 tons each, and-twelve other submarines.

The total number of new units is 157, of which 66 will be started without delay. A bonus of 20 per cent, over contract will be offered for espeditious delivery. The estimated expenditure for the three years totals a hundred million pounds.
