VIOLENT BOMBARDMENT AT HILL 304.

THIAUMONT AGAIN LOST.

THE REDOUBT IN RUINS

(United Service.)

(Received July 2, 11.30 p.m.)

Paris, July 2.

A communique states that there is a violent bombardment in the whole region of Hill 304 and the Mort

Eomme.

Our infantry recaptured: the Thiaumont work.

On the left bank of the Meuse the enemy made four violent attacks on both sides of Hill 304. Three were bloodily repulsed, but at the fourth the Germans retook the fortified work we captured yesterday, and also trenches east of Hill 304.

Our counter-attacks regained everything.

On the right bank a desperate struggle continued for possession of the Thiauiront redoubt, which the Germans again penetrated.

The redoubt is a complete wreck. We are established in the immediate

approaches.
