Early on Saturday morning a concerted British and French offensive was launched north o£ the mer Soxnme after a brief but unprecedentedly violent bombardment. The British have broken the German forward defences on a sixteen mile front, and hold positions in many villages, On the immediate right of the British the French are making equally satisfactory progress. On both banks of the Meuse the Germans delivered violent attacks, which were repulsed with heavy enemy losses. There was particularly severe fighting at Thlauraoat, Strenuous fighting continues on the Btyr and the Dniester. The B,ussiati3 have occupied ELolomea, taking many prisoners. The Itaiiaa progress is maintained.
