GERMAN JOLLIFICATION.

KEG PARTIES

QUESTIONS ABOUT GOE.B INCIDENT.

INTERNMENT WARNING.

(From Our Own Co-respondent.)

Wellington, Juno.6.

The member for Mataxira drew the attention of the Premier in the House of Representatives to-day to a Press message from Gore respecting certain alleged celebrations by young men of pro-German sympathies in that town on Sunday last, to mark the supposed German victory in the North Sea. Mr .Anderson went on-. 'ABefore I came up to Parliament! was told it was a common practice' among a. certain class or Germans in the country to hold what are called keg'parties. . I want the Government to assure me that these sort of things will be stopped. Apparently the police had not taken the matter up as they should have done. These kog parties, I should inform members, are equivalent amongst the poorer people to what champagne suppers are among rich people." Mr Wilford: But what were Gore residents doing while this was going on.' Members: Yes; what about the people of Gore? ■ .. The effect of the Premier's replies was that the youths who participated in the Gore incidents were of GermanBritish parentage, and lived at Gore. They did not march through the stree-s as had been stated. The whole matter was being investigated A fcrebeh was rung, and two bombs were discharged on Sunday, but there was some doubt whether the affair was on account of the naval fight. Mr Massey, after reading the telegrams, said- "Neither; the people nor the Government of tins country will tolerate any pro-German demonstrations, at Gore or anywhere else. Any persons who show any sympathy with Germany will find themselves at Somes Island for the remainder or the wai, md -with no unnecessary delay.
