Tho fifteenth annual Nelson provincial conference of tiie Farmers' Union was held in the Oddfellows' Hall, Richmond, on May 30th. The following were present: Messrs Walter Thorn (President), F. Whitwell (vice-presi-dent), G. Ilugonin, J. Jordan, R. O'Connor, K. Goodall, Jvo Tunnicliffe, C. E. MacShane, Geo. Dodson, G. L. Mead, R. H. Turner, W. Barker, and W. I). Harkness. Messrs R. C. Withers and G. Winter were excused from attendance. » Tho President gave a resume of the work done during the past'year. , It was resolved that a telegram of sympathy be sent to Mr R. P. Hudson, M.P;, on the death of his son. . The, balance-sheet was read and adopted, and showed a small credit balance. ' > .

Ilesolved (Messrs' Hugonin and Jordan), Th#t the Provincial Executive meet once at Tapawera and Takaka during this year, Resolved (Messrs Dodson and Mead), That tke meeting at Tapawera be held in October, and at Takaka ■in January or February, the. secretary to arrange dates of other meetings of the executive to be-held.at'Richmond. Resolved (Messrs Tunnicliffe ancl Mead), That.the Minister for Public Works be asked for a. new road over the Stanley Brook-Motueka Valley Hill,, and that the member for the district be asked to assist the delegate to the Dominion .Conference in placing the matter, before the Minister. ' Resolved (Messrs Whitwell and Dodson), That the question of dealing with the small birds' nuisance is one that can' be better dealt with by the branches, 'each for its own locality, and,' in the opinion of this conference, the. nuisance would not arise so. frequently if there-were not so much individual apathy among the farmers concerned. •■'.••?•■ Resolved (Messrs Tunncliffe and Dodsou), That Mr O'Connor obtain further information from the Commissioner of Crown Lands with regard -to terms granted to Crown tenants in the -Back country. „ ■■■"„'". , i Resolved (Messrs G-^'Ml anc&Tunificliffe), That the Raf \- Department, be asked to erect a weighbridge at' the Nelson railway station. 1 Resolved (Messrs Goodall and Dodson), That the Agricultural Department be asked to send an expert to re-port-on the lime deposits of the district, with the view to erecting limecrushing plants. Resolved (Messrs .Tunnicliffe ■ and U Connor), That the Government be urged to enforce the Noxious Weeds Act m agricultural districts. In connection with dividing the.
