ANNUAL MEETING

The animal meeting of the Ne-lson Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was held yesterday afterjnocn at the Public Trust Building, the president (Bishop Mules) in the chair. j The 'balance-sheet for the ye&v ended Felwiiary 29th showed tliat the year i-w»» started with £61 8s 5d in hand, [interest earned amounted to £2 8s od, • and: members' 'subscriptions and donajlioHS totalled £12 135., making the. to[tar receipts £76 10s lid. The report of the committee stated that during the year complaints had boon received as follows —111-treatmg horses 11, cattle 5; dogs 5, and fowls 2; TJk< inspector, together with the police sergeant and plain clothes officer, made a thorough inspection in tho worst cases, but could not discover sufficient for taking proceedings. The society donated £5 to the Blue Cross Fund, which was supplemented by £1 from various donors. Acknowledg- '• merit of receipt of this amount had j been received through the F-igh C<;m----i missioner. Thanks for various services were due to Miss GJ.bbs, Mr R.
