Wellington, Jan. 28. At the opening of the annual meeting of the *New Zealand Institute the Hon. G. W. Russell said he realised! the great importance attached to the development oi scientific research m tho Dominion. One of the failures in this respect was due to a large- extent) to the insignificant part iuken in scientific work by the Dominion Museum. Ho had, when previously a Minister, had plans T>re;viri'<{ for the erection of building? to serw «..-; a museum and art gallery on tho present site, but. the sefoe'mcy w-.v, abandoned.. He would endeavour to :-<x'i- the (to-vernraent-ta approve o! th-.ii scheme and*'have-a start nutde >vith tho erection of the building.
