backing up the Navy. Apparently it was . attempting to interfere with and lessen sea power. He cited the recent neutral statistics in proof of oversqueainishness towards the Huns.

THE KING'S SPEECH

London, Jan. 27
The King, in proroguing Parliament said •—"Mj' Army and Navy are engaged, in concert with our brave and steadfast Allies, in defending the common liberties and public Jaw of Euiope against the unprovoked encroachments of the enemy. I am sustained by the determination of my people at home and overseas to carry the flag to final and decisive victory in this struggle which has been forced upon us by those who hold in light esteeni liberties and covenants which' we regard,; as; sacred. We > shall: not lay down our arms; until we have vindicated the caused which* carries with it the future of civilisation. I rely with confidence upon the loyal and united efforts of all my subjects, who have never failed me. I pray that Almighty God may give iis His blessing."
