PUBLIC RECEPTION TO RETURNED -SOLDIERS.

A meeting of the combined t patriotic committees was held at the City (3oun<:il Chambers last evening, to make arrangements for a reception to all returned soldiers during the visit to Nelson of the Hon. G. W. Ritssell, Miuister«foi\.Public Health, next week.. In the abseSice of the Mayor (Mr C. J. Harley), Mr W. Lock was voted to the chair. Mr Lock explained that ma-ny of the soldiers who had returned had not been accorded a fitting reception, and tho suggestion had been made that the visit of the Hon. G. W. Russell would be a suitable opportunity for such a function. A proposal had been made that the soldiers should 'be entertained nt lunch, to be followed by a- 'formal reception, and afternoon tea. Opportunit* would also be taken to confer with .'Mr Russell in regard to patriotic matters. ~,,,, Mr W. W. Snodgrass said that Mr Russell would arrive on Tuesday and would stay over Wednesday. It was decided to givo tfie returned soldiers a public reception at the Church Steps after the lunch, the proceedings to take the form of a procession round the town, in which the Territorials. Senior Cadets, all units, of tho National Reserve, with the 12th Regiment and National Reserve Bands, will participate, followed by speeches by prominent citizens. , >.-•■., It was resolved to ask the Maydr to proclaim a holiday on Wednesday afternoon. Tlie following sub-committee was set up to arrange for the procession and th*» speakers, etc.: The Mayor. Captain Nicholls, Messrs T. A. H. Field, M.P., E. S. Cresswoll, and W. W. Snodgrass. It was resolved that afternoon tea be provided for the soldiers and their friends, the speakers at the function, and members of committee and bands. The secretary (Mr W. W. Snodgrass) stated that he would be pleased to receive offers of motor cars for tho accommodation of the wounded soldiers and official visitors.
