The London correspondent of the "Chicago Daily News," the doyen of American journalists in England, in a striking attack upon American nolicy, says that since the war American prestige abroad has sunk to the iowest depths it has ever reached. Americans abroad arc uncomfortable and apologetic. The picture of president Wilson screened at music halls m London provokes hissing and booing. "The low opinion of us in England.is due .to our failure to- give expression to our outraged conscience and long suffering in the face of repeated frightful crimes,'/ he continues. "We have lost prestige in France, Italy, Russia, end the Balkans, while the Germans bold us to be more than foes. It is everywhere said that v,e are diseased with the itch for money, and are'namby pamby and too isordid and cowardly to fight."
