' The concert given by the Waken"eld Glee Club on ' Wednesday'■ night wa& largely attended, the- Oddfellows'" Halt being filled. The following excellent programme- was presented, with M*s Harold Moore as conductor: —Glee. "Rule Britannia," Glee Club; song, iMiss Kingsland; duet,. "Nocturne," Miss Thomas and Miss Fearless; glee r "To Sylvia;" song, "Daffodils a-blow-ing," .'Miss'.Thelma Butt; trio (ladies' voices),- "Sweet May"*: song, Mrs Mooro; glee, "Good-riight, Beloved" '; pianoforte- duet, Miss Max and Miss Fairey; glee, "Four Jolly Smiths";; song," Mis:; Pea-rless;'quartette (male voices), "Lovely, Nigivt'" ;• song, Mrs. 'Moore; euphonium solo, Mr Eden j song, Mr Francois; "lee from "Oberon." Mrs Harold Moore's songs simply carried the large audience away, with delight. She sang, on her first appearance, "England," Thy Name," and fis an encore 'number "Angus McDonald," for which she received loud applause and a handsome bouquet from a lady admirer, and in the second part. "When the Flowing; Tide Comes ■In," and for encore, "The Sweetest Flower that Blows." Her pupils, all received encores for their songs. Mr E. Ediidge,, the president, addressing the audience,, stated that a hard-working and popular official was leaving for the- North Island. She had never come before the footlights, but a good secretary meant success. She had been a great worker for the public, and for the harmame and literary societies of the past. Ho alluded to "Miss Martin. (Appfause.) He. had much pleasure in giving her a tangible proof of the great esteem the residents of Wakefie-ld and district had for her and her efforts, in the shape of a gold bracelet, with all their good wishes for hey future welfare. Mr G. Wilkens replied on Miss Martin's behalf. The audience sang "God Save the King." During supper, in she ante-room, Miss G. A farewell social was tendered to Mr and Mrs Fred Durbridge and family in the Oddfellows' Hall 911 Friday night, a large number of residents behg present. Mr C. J. Hurley, Mayor of Nelson, wrote regretting his iunlnlity to ho present, and expressing the hope thai/ Mr and Mi's Durbridge would be successful in their new home. A lengthy programme was gone through, consisting of songs, etc., by Misses Thomas and .Fearless and Messrs Webley, Francois, Sharman. Sangster, and Fryer. The chairman (Mr Ivo. Tunnicliife) said that. Mr and Mrs Durbridgc and family had made many friends ar>d were well'known and respected. They hud helped many a needy person. Mr Durbridgo was an outspoken man, and a keen "sportsman. He was president and captain of the Rover Football Club, and the giver of many trophies. The chairman then asked Mr and Mrs Durbridge to accept a present, consisting of a handsome silver tea ana coffee servico, suitably engraved, from the public of Wakefield and district, togethev with their best wishes. Airs Geo. Hunt presented Mrs Durbridge with a lovely bouquet. A traveller in the half, Mr .tack Reid, spoke- of the splendid treatment he and liis fellow-commercial travellers had always received from Mr and Mrs Dttrbridge. Messrs F. B. Peart and E. S. Hoult also testified to the good qualities of the guests of the evening.
