RIWAKA.

The residents of Riwaka Valley and a number of oilier friends met on Thursday to bid farewell to Mr Lance Cook, eldest son of Mr James Cook, who is shortly leaving to join the Navy. .During the evening, Mr. T. Macmahon, on behalf of friends, presented Mr Cook with a pipe, a tobacco pouch, and a fountain pen.' In making the presentation, Mr Macmahon referred to the popularity of the recipient and said he was'acting, well and wisely in attaching himself to the Navy. Mr Cook was going tq serve his King and country, and he-(Mr Macmahon) knew he would do his duty faithfully and well, and quit himself as a bravo son of ihe- Empire Ho wished Mr Cook God-speed and a safe return. Mr French, who responded for Mr Cook, endorsed the previous speaker's remarks. The evening was occupied with games, dancing, and musical and elocutionary items. Prior to the singing of "Au'kT Lang Syne" and "God Save the King," Mr Reg. Rowling called for thanks, which were given by acclamation, for all those who tad contributed. to the evening's enjoyment, especially mentioning Mr John Cook for the use of his kiln, Mr D. Mickell for the loan of his piano, and Mr R. Bate for supplying the music.
