ECCS FOR SOLDIERS. The following letter, addressed to the Mayoress of Motueka, has been received* from the High Commissioner under. date London, May 18th:—' 'On December 7th a cablegram was received from Lord Liverpool stating that 24 boxes of eggs had been despatched by Her Excellency Lady Liverpool from the Mayoress and people of Motueka, by the s.s. lonic, for distribution amongst hospitals for wounded New Zbalanders The gift arrived on January 16th in excellent order and condition. As there were no wounded New Zealanders in hospital, the contingent having been disembarked in Egypt, and it being recognised that the eggs would nc-t keep indefinitely, it was decided to sell them and retain ifoe money, realised from them for the purchase of fresh eggs for the purpose specified in the cablegram, when required. The eggs were accordingly sold through Messrs. ,H. A.- Lane and Co., who gave their services free of charge, and the sum of £15 6s 2d was realised.
