Wellington, July 21. The House of Representatives did very little business to-day. The opportunity of discussing answers to questions was nc-t utilised.

Members discussed' at great length Mr. Wilford's State Advances Amendment Bill. Mr. Wilford explained its objects as the reintroduction of the State Fir© Insurance Department's •monopoly ..over the insurance of property mortgaged to the State Advances Department', and to ensure that anytransfer of funds between the various branches of the State lending departments should be disclosed annually to Parliament. Members debated the system of State monopoly of the advances insurance, business on lines already familiar.

Mr. Wilford's Bill was read a.second time.

Mr. McCombs's, Industrial Unions and Trade Unions Bill was read a second time pro forma. Before the House rose the Minister of Public Health stated that a case- of measles had been reported from the Maheno. One of the crew had contracted the disease, and had been landed at Adelaide. Two more Trentham troopers had died at Wellington Hospital—one yesterday from measles;, and one this afternoon from meningitis.
