DIOCESE OF NELSON.

BRIGHTWATER PAROCHIAL DISTRICT.

Owing to tie retirement of the Yen. Archdeacon Baker at the end of the year, the Board of Nomination for/ the Diocese of Nelson mcb «< Thursday, July Ist to consider the vacancy in the parochial district of Brightwater. After due deliberation; the Board decided to nominate the Rev. John Pratt Kernpthorne, the vicaivof the Cathedral. The Bishop having' received the nomination, duly forwarded it to Mr Kempthorne for consideration, and has now received his acceptance, of the nomination. Brightwater has been re-j garded for many years as one of the most important districts in the Dioce.se. There are historical associations with the district owing to its having been the place of residence, of the first Bishop. It has had only two vicars for the'lasfe 48 years, Bishop Mules from 1867 to 1892 and Archdeacon Baker from 1893 up to the present year. The Rev. J. P. Kempthorne will'be missed very much from the Cathedral. We! understand that, the Bishop has inti- ] mated that he intends to collate Mr Kempthorne as Archdeacon of Waimea when Archdeacon Baker retires, and! that in tins way the traditions of Brightwater will be preserved in .the. Diocese. The Board will meet shortly to consider the vacancy at the Cathedral.
