Official. —Since the 7th inst. there has been much activity on the part of Italian ships and aircraft in the Adriatic.

Our warships destroyed a revictualling base for to-pedoers at one of the Dalmatian Islands.

An Italian dirigible caused fires at tho important Sfcabilmento Technico works at Trieste, which were visible for twenty-five miles.

Waterplanes dropped bombs on Austrian destroyers concentrated in the Fabana Canal, near Pola, among other noteworthy aviation feats.

The cruisers Varese, Francesco Ferruccio, General Garibaldi, and Vettor Pisani bombarded the railway on the 18th near Cattaro, where a number of Austrian battleships were taking refuge.

Tlie enemy stayed in harbour with steam up until the Italians retired.

Submarines then attacked the Garibaldi, which avoided the first attempt, but was later struck. The crew showed the utmost calmness and discipline, the men shouting "Long live the King" several times before jumping into the sea in accordance with orders.

The armoured cruiser Genei-al Garibaldi was launched in 1899. She was of f 7,234 tons displacement, and mounted one 10-inch and two 8-inch guns.
