THE MALIGNED TURK
Sydney, July 20.
Private Bertram Depina, wounded, was born in New Zealand; Pi-ivate F. W. Bubb, wounded, was well known-in New Zealand.
Captain Bean, referring to" the alleged atrocities, says the Turk is a rather maligned person, Avho certainly does not compare with tho German for. frightfulness. At the same time the * army may contain Kurds, Circassians, and other wild men responsible for anything. Once the dead body of a New Zealander, stripped of clothes, was thrown up on the parapet of a trench, which the Turks re-took. There was no- evidence whatever that the body had been harmed in any way.
