PERMANENT PICTURES.

There.was again a large and enthusiastic audience at the Empire ' Theatre last evening, when the "Acid Test" programme was screened fcr the last time. The third part of the thrilling serial, "Trey o' Hearts," was again received with applause. To-night there will be an entirely new programme, headed by a political drama by the Thanhouser company, entitled "The Reader of Minds." This is the story of a young American officer, Lieutenant Esmond, who invents a wireless apparatus which will destroy hostile warships. The secret agents of a foreign government employ a mind-reading machine, and so obtain the plans of. the invention from Esmond. Unable to explain the mystery or to clear himself, he is dismissed from the service. Later his sweetheart, who is a telephone operator, discovers the mind-reading instrument, and he is reinstated. The second series of the charming Edison serial, "Dolly of the Dailies," featuring Mary Fuller, will be shown to-night. This .shows Dolly making her way in literary work in the city. The latest Keystone and other comedies, a Topical Budget and other films of interest complete this programme, and to this will be added again the third nart of "Trey o' Hearts."

Motueka, will be visited on Wednesday night and Richmond on Thursday.
