PATRIOTIC LAND LOTTERY.

[United Pbess Association.]

Wellington, July 18

A beginning is to be made next week with the special effort of the Wellington branch of the Patriotic Society to dispose of tickets in the Waikato land art union in aid of "the Soldiers and Sailors' Dependents' Fund. Mr. John McMaster, of the Wairarapa, has given £4000 worth of shares in the Maretai Farms, Ltd., Waitako, for the purposes of the art union, and 1,000,000 tickets are to be disposed of at 5s each. . A total sum of £250,000 will thus bo raised 4 and the Wellington branch of the Patriotic Society has decided that after the deduction of expenses an equal division of the proceeds shall be made between the four military districts of the Dominion —Auckland, Wellington, Canterbury and Otago. The art union has therefore been made a matter of national interest instead of being limited to Wellington. To Mr. D. McLaren has been entrusted the management of the whole affair, and this gentleman will on Monday make a start with the distribution of tickets in the Wairarapa district.
