NELSON LAND BOARD.

The monthly meeting of the Nelson Land Board was held on Thursday iatt. Present: Mr. F. A. Thompson (Commissioner), and Messrs. Baigem., JJell, Patterson and Walker. W. Sixtus, recommended to be granted; blocks ix and x., Tutaki, 250 acres, J. Lester, Minister's

consent received; section 5,' block ill, Tutaki, 4 acres, A. Beswick, recommended to be granted; section 12, block i, Motueka, 381 acres, L. C. T- and H. E. Inwood, recomended to be granted. Application for pastoral license: Block i, 500 acres, A. H. Manley, granted.

The -Commissioner reported that the lease of section 46, town of Murchison, la 3r Bp, upset rental £8, has been offered and passed in. Mr. E. Esler appeared before the Board with reference to rent duo on section 6, block viii, Tutaki survey district. —Consideration adjourned for inquiry. Application for occupation license: Blocks viii and sii, Tadn»or, 100 acres, Cyril Newport.—Withdrawal accepted. Application under sections 307 and 311 of the Land Act: Section 20, block vii, Kaiteriteri, 147 acres*, W. R. B. Vass, granted at £5 per annum, royalty to be paid on limestone at 6d per ton and marble at 2s 6d per ton.

Re-opening lands, etc., for selection: Section 17, etc., blocks vi. and x., Aorere, timber on 300 acres, naval and military settlers' block. Ranger's report read. Former valuation to be adhered to. Holman, applying for exemption from rent and residence on section 2, block iii, Maruia district, as he is leaving for the war. —Exemption from residence, rent to stand over whilst on active service.

From Free, Cottrell, and Lawry, Reofton, asking what concessions the Board is granting to lessees who have enlisted (as to improvements, rent and residence), with special reference to Mr.' J. H. B. Malloy, holder of sections 100 and 101, block ix, Reefton, who has enlisted and is now in camp at Trentham.—lnformation to be forwarded; Exemption from residence, rent to stand over whilst on active service.

From tho Under-Secretary for Lands, stating that the reason suggested for opening section 15, block ix, Tutaki survey district, with exemption from rent is not considered sufficient—Reselved that the Board adhere to its former recommendation that the section be opened with two years' exemption, and having gone fully into the matter are convinced that the land* will not be selected without this concession. Provided this not approved, the land be not offered.

The Takaka County Council submitted scheme for expenditure of thirds, amount £68 13s 4d.—Approved.

The Commissioner reported that at the auction held on' June 30th, the Inangahua Junction and Warwick Junction accommodation house reserve leases were bought by Messrs. Alborn and Thomson respectively.
