PROPOSED NON-PARTY WAR

COMMITTEE.

MR. FISHER UNSYMPATHETIC

fVJeJfeourno, June 12,

In the House/replying to a suggestion that a non-party War Preparation Committee to act with the Minister for Defence in investigating and securing a mord effective supply of munitions, would inspire greater confidence than the present party system, Mr. Fisher said no party interests had been introduced into the conduct of the war. The Ministry was willing to accept advice from anyone in order to bring the war to an early and successful issue; but viewing the position in the most patriotic spirit the Government felt that, it was not in the best interests of the country to share the responsibility for administrative acts necessary for the effective carrying out of its policy.

Asked if Sir Robert Borden's reported visit to England to consult the British Cabinet over war problems was part of ft concerted action by the Dominions, Mr Fisher said there had been no negotiations with the Dominions for the purpose suggested.

Strong complaints were made in House at the delay in notifying 'he Dardanelles casualties.

Mr. Jensen replied that the best possible was being done. _

The Italian Consul states\that he hr.s had an official notification from Rome that at present it was not intended to make any special call of Italian reservists living in Australasia, but advising him to take the necessary steps to enrol them.
