In the House, Mr. Fisher, in reply to a suggestion whether he would take steps as the leader of an enlightened democracy to find out on what' terms general peace was possible, said he did ,not think .the time had arrived for intervention or suggesting anything of the sort to the - British Government, which was carrying on the war. Such action ■'would be misrepresented by their enemies as a sign of weakening. Wo are prepared to go to the bitter end, win or go under.
