A German offensive started yesterday] with a furious ntt.eck southward of Ypres and a. heavy artillery duel at Dixmude. Troops withdrawn from France have arrived at Bruges. The Germans are terrorising the Belgians owing to their refusal to do military work. Executions on a large scale have occurred, and many .public men have been arrested. M. Verscheuren, Burgomaster of Hessen, near Willebrook, died in prison because his guards forgot to givn him food. It was then officially' announced that he had committed suicide.
