MR CAMPBELL'S APPOINTMENT
THE GENERAL ELECTION

! Mr Asquith, speaking in the House of Commons, said he was not yet in a position to announce- the Government's decision regarding the general election. The "British Weekly" hints at a probability of the Government asking the country for a fresh mandate. The "Daily Chronicle" protests against the idea of a general election because of the wretched wrangle about the Irish Office The newspapers generally believe that the difficulty will be settled The Campbell controversy is les? acute It is no personal question.- Mr Campbell offered to resign, and placed himself in the hands-of his political friends.. , The JJlstermeiv only -desire that, a Unionist shall hold one of the' higher j Irish offices.
