About 2.30 fi'-Jo',-k this morning a firo was discovered io the premises of Mr F. Coopor, fmiirrer. and confectioner, in Trafalgar street, next' the- .Masonic; Hotel. ' Tho 'nW'cntion ■ of -Constablo Hardy was.ai-t*,aclc"d by a dense volume of smoke, tfhiri' was omeiging from the rear of "the buiio'ing, and "ho "ran to tho bell near tho Cm<tral Hotel and sounded the alarm. The constable, with the assistance oi Mf V. V. Spiers, who came, on tho sc^nOj then got reel from the hose station -;irnr -the hotel, and had a. jet of water pbying on the flames in-a, few mimitos. Tho outbreak was thus held in chcfJr t-il tho arrival of the Brigade, which lespouded ])romj>tly to tho alarm, ;v ='l a tenons conflagration was 'averted.
